JAY SULLIVAN
thank-you letter |

Dear COL O'Neill:
We were thrilled with Jay's selection as a recipient of the AEA's Hobson $3,000 Scholarship ... Jay is a great kid and has done superbly in his first year as a civil engineering student at Texas A&M University, finishing with a 3.75 GPA ... Jay has completed two summer intern positions with a San Antonio-based geotechnical and material testing firm (Raba-Kistner Consultants, Inc.) — a top 500 Engineering News Record Design firm in the U.S. ... I have included two photos of Jay ... the first is a close-up snapshot of Jay, and the second is a photo of Jay standing in front of the civil engineering building at Texas A&M University ... in the next few days we will send the short paragraph you requested.
You may not recall, but back in 1984 I served under your command as an Officer Evaluator/Counselor for the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Ft. Belvoir (you validated me out of the Engineer Officer Advanced Course because when I arrived at EOAC I had already completed two company commands - one at Ft Leonard Wood and one with the 2nd Engineer Battalion in Korea) ... you wrote a letter of recommendation for my graduate school application ... I was accepted into the Army Graduate School Program in 1985 and selected Texas A&M University for my master's degree program in civil engineering ... and now, 25 years later, my son is attending Texas A&M University and working toward a bachelor's degree in civil engineering ... what a small world.
Thank you again for the wonderful scholarship news.
Best Regards,
Garrett Sullivan
